Dr Sandeep Marwah

Dr. Sandeep Marwah is the Founder-President of the Asian Academy of Film & Television (AAFT), and the founder of Noida Film City and Marwah Studios. Over more than three decades, he has contributed to film, television, media education and international cultural exchange. He has been associated with the production of short films, television programmes and training films, while helping develop generations of media professionals from India and abroad. He currently serves as Chancellor of AAFT University of Media and Arts and AAFT Online and Vice President of the Film Federation of India (FFI), supporting academic collaboration, creative exchange and industry engagement globally.

Asian Academy of Film & Television (AAFT) was established in 1993 in Noida Film City, Delhi NCR, India, under the umbrella of the Asian Society of Film & Television (ASFT). Since its foundation, AAFT has developed a strong academic focus on cinema, television and creative media education, with filmmaking and its connected disciplines forming the core of its academic identity.

AAFT’s mission is to provide practice-led, academically structured and industry-relevant education that develops both the creative voice and the professional capabilities of emerging filmmakers. Teaching combines classroom learning with sustained practical work in direction, screenwriting, cinematography, editing, sound, acting and production, supported by studio exercises, collaborative films, screenings, critique and project-based assessment.

The academic strategy is centred on learning by making, continuous academic development and close engagement with professional practice. Working filmmakers and media professionals contribute through masterclasses, workshops, project reviews and industry interaction, while students use professional studios, post-production facilities, sound and Foley spaces, screening environments and filmmaking equipment across the production journey.

AAFT also continues to update its curriculum in response to changes in contemporary filmmaking, combining strong foundations in storytelling and film craft with digital cinematography, virtual production, real-time workflows and responsible use of emerging technologies.

The AAFT School of Cinema offers undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes that combine a broad understanding of filmmaking with deeper study in a chosen creative or technical specialisation.
