Jorge Paixão da Costa

Jorge Paixão da Costa (Lisbon, Portugal, 1954) is a Portuguese film director, screenwriter, researcher, and university professor. He graduated in Cinematography from the University of Stockholm (1982) and holds an M.A. in Media and Communication (Audiovisual Studies) from NOVA University Lisbon (2008) and a Ph.D. in Communication Sciences from Lusófona University (2022). In recognition of his academic achievements, he was awarded the Belchior Prize by Colégio São João de Brito in 2012.

With a career spanning more than three decades, Jorge Paixão da Costa has established himself as one of Portugal's leading film and television directors. His feature films include Adeus Princesa (1994), O Mistério da Estrada de Sintra(2007), Jacinta (2016), and Soldado Milhões (2018). Alongside his work in cinema, his television credits include Os Melhores Anos, Polícias, A Ferreirinha, A República, A Espia, Crónica dos Bons Malandros, and Irmã Lúcia. He has also directed and written documentaries and documentary series, including À Porta da História, A Ponte aos 50, Jazzé Duarte, and Não Sei do Que Se Trata, Mas Não Concordo.

In addition to his creative work, he serves on the Board of the Portuguese Society of Authors (SPA), is a member of the RTP Public Service Television Advisory Council, and is President of the General Assembly of the Portuguese Coalition for Cultural Diversity. Since 1997, he teaches film directing, screenwriting, and audiovisual production at Lusófona University, and has served as Academic Director of the RTP Academy 4.0, contributing to higher education and professional training in film and audiovisual media.
